The Traveling Essence, Part II: Connecting to Transform

The essence of travel is something deeply personal, something that is only felt when you allow yourself to open up to new experiences and seek genuine connections.

For years we've been exploring that surge of energy that fills us at the end of every unforgettable journey, that feeling that only makes sense after countless adventures, lessons learned, successes, and goodbyes. It's the essence that drives us to always go beyond the surface, to where the stories that truly transform us begin.

Beyond Destinies: The Magic of Unexpected Encounters

If you've ever planned a trip, you know that we often dream about the places we want to see, the photos we want to take, and the dishes we long to try. All of that is wonderful and has its own magic. But what never appears in any guidebook, what often happens unexpectedly, are the people we meet along the way, who end up leaving an indelible mark on our lives.

A few years ago, on a trip I had planned to capture the best of Peru, I had an experience that changed my perspective forever. My camera and I had explored every corner of Machu Picchu, and the streets of Cusco were already beginning to resemble those perfect photos I had dreamed of. But the most significant thing wasn't what I saw, but who I met.

A Meeting in Ollantaytambo: Gaby's Story

It was a quiet afternoon in Ollantaytambo, and I was wandering aimlessly, as if my feet, without my knowing it, were leading me to a new story. On one of those turns, I met Gaby, a 12-year-old girl, who was resting on the wall of a farm, catching her breath after a long day gathering weeds.

We looked at each other and smiled, and soon after we started talking. Curious and enthusiastic, she asked me where I was from, and when she heard I was from Barcelona, ​​her eyes sparkled with disbelief. "So far away?" she said, as if trying to imagine what it meant to live on another continent. It was a simple conversation that quickly transformed into something much deeper.

Gaby told me she earned 5 soles for every clump of weeds she pulled, and that her greatest wish was to return to school to see her friends and continue learning. She wanted to be a police officer someday, she confessed, but there wasn't a suitable school in her town to prepare her, so she dreamed of going to study in another city and, perhaps, traveling the world someday.

We spent a lot of time together, sharing our stories, sitting on that cement wall. I, a traveler passing through; she, a girl with dreams as big as the world she imagined. That moment, in all its simplicity, transformed me. Before saying goodbye, we exchanged emails, and I can't stop thinking that, maybe someday, Gaby will write to tell me that she's fulfilled her dreams. That would be wonderful.

Viajar Conectando: La Verdadera Transformación

Desde aquel día, mi manera de viajar cambió. Ahora, ya no me interesa solo tachar lugares de una lista o capturar la foto perfecta. Hoy, mis viajes tienen como propósito conectar. Abrirme a la experiencia de conocer, de escuchar y de ser transformada por cada persona que cruzo en mi camino. Viajar así es buscar no solo lo que se ve, sino lo que se siente. Es el encuentro con aquellos que te dan una nueva perspectiva, te regalan una sonrisa o comparten sus sueños contigo, dejando en cada conversación una enseñanza única.

La esencia viajera se encuentra en esos momentos, en esos gestos inesperados y en esas personas que nos enseñan que el viaje real empieza cuando nos permitimos conectar desde el corazón. No importa cuán diferentes sean nuestras vidas, al final, el deseo de soñar, de aprender, de compartir, nos une a todos.

Cuándo Viajar Se Convierte en Transformación

Hoy, queremos que también te atrevas a buscar esos momentos. Que en tu próximo viaje no solo sigas un itinerario o busques lugares turísticos. Que te tomes un momento para sentarte en algún rincón tranquilo, abrirte a una charla espontánea y permitirte ser transformada. Porque los recuerdos más especiales de un viaje no se guardan en una foto, sino en las historias que vivimos y en las personas que encontramos por el camino.

Así es como viajamos nosotras. Llevamos años recorriendo el mundo solas, con el deseo constante de ir más allá de la superficie, de conectar de verdad. Porque en cada paso, en cada conversación y en cada mirada que compartimos, creamos recuerdos que van mucho más allá del destino.
